Puppy corral has no bottom. We suggest putting it on an oversized blanket. We show it on a comforter When used this way the young pups cannot get under the bedding and out of our view. There are 2 distinct areas, one which has the pig rail and the other has mom’s getaway with food and water. Unit is shown with 2 doors open so you can identify their location. Heating pad can be put under the blanket and the cord never needs to be in the pen. Of course doors can be open or closed as fits your situation. We have suggestions for tops and protective floor coverings if you contact about your special needs.

After there is no need for the pig rail and the pups are going potty on their own we remove the center divide and pig rail. Then we drop in a walk-thru divide and a crate pan. The standard pens we size will accommadate the pans from the 36, 42, 48 and 54 inch crates Now you choose your method in pan. I use flat newspaper so during daytime or nighttime I can just put more in on poop and pee. Then as needed just roll it up and put in new. Cleaning of the crate pan is done as needed. I know some use shredded paper as shown on our cover page, others use shavings. This is your choice to make. I like the flat paper so that when pups go home at 8 weeks they are basically paper trained for their new owners. I still leave blanket under total area for ease of cleaning. For the total time I use the pen the cleaning process is the same. Tip it on it’s side, remove dirty blanket, replace with clean and put pen down to secure all 4 sides under pen. When mom goes outside I remove pups and pig rail. Then tip on side to change blanket. Not everyone will have room to do this. The big pens are heavier than small of course so do it safely as it works for you.

Depending on your breed, amount of pups, lifestyle you can proceed into weeks 6+ how it works for you.

One possibility is to attach an xpen at side door to provide a play area of greater size.

A day or 2 before pups go home I usually put pen outside. Sometimes I replace the 2 short sides with longer ones so they have more room to romp and play. Pups now sleep in crates so they become accustomed to confinement. When families come to see pups I take those they may choose out into pen. Much more attractive and user friendly than an xpen. It is easy for children and adults to step in and out of pen.
